This industry used to be all metal. but no more. Boeing's 777 alone caused a worldwide shortage in carbon fiber, and the other plastics that are used regularly in all types of aircraft is totally amazing.
Believe it or not, there are experimental plastics being tested in the hot sections of the engines.
