This is the tape (looks like butyl tape for windows) that is used to provide a seal between the vacuum-bagging film and the tool or mold surface.
This seal is very important. If there is any vacuum leakage at any time during the cure cycle, the part could be damaged. Not good.

There are a couple notable variables from tape to tape. First is the temperature range the tape is designed to work in. You'll choose a tape based upon the highest temperature you expect to have during cure, and then add a safety factor.

Second, is the ability of the tape to stick to the mold surface and to the bagging film. This is very subjective. If the tape is too sticky and you need to reposition the bag (undo the tape) then you might rip the bagging film. Not sticky enough, and you'll have a grand old time trying to get a seal.

We sell a tape called ST-350. It's good for cures from room temperature all the way to 350F. And just like the staff at E-Guy Central, it's tacky in a pleasant kind of way.
